Stephen along with local artist Sally Gray, who works in modern parchment, will be exhibiting at Godalming Museum (109a High Street, Godalming) between the 7th of April and the 9th of May 2009
Sally makes intricate works often reflecting her faith, these use modern parchment, much being done from the reverse by embossing and perforations, fine lacelike effects are gained. Parchment was originally made from the inside of sheepskins, Havant being a centre for its production. This links with Stephen's paintings, most being local views but some done to celebrate this year being the 150th anniversary of the Portsmouth Direct Railway Line linking the Line at Godalming being a branch of the South Western main line at Woking to the coastal routes at Havant.
The exhibition will not be just artworks but also have small displays on the history of parchment making and the Portsmouth Direct Railway through out the exhibition. On some days Sally will be present to demonstrate her work.
